Multiple Teams · Ryan advances to State Finals

NEW CASTLE, IN – Alexandria’s Nate Ryan entered Semi-State action last week with all of the odds against him. Despite everyone’s beliefs, Ryan battled his way through the field grabbing a fourth place finish and earning a spot in this week’s State Finals.

In first round action, Ryan faced Brandon Manning (38-6) from South Dearborn. Things started off a little slow for the Tiger, but he picked up the pace in the middle of the first period. Ryan went on to grab the victory by pinning Manning right as the buzzer went off to end the second period.

That win set up a showdown that would prove to be the toughest match Ryan has faced all season. Ryan entered the tournament unranked, but now he faced 5th ranked Connor James (34-2) from Roncalli. James was predicted to place first at the semi state, and that is when Ryan began messing up everyone’s “predictions”. Both grapplers battled until the final whistle, but when it was over… Ryan escaped with a 4-3 decision allowing him to advance in the tournament.
