Multiple Teams · Shorty Burdsall Gym Dedication on Nov. 24th

On November 24th when our Alexandria Tiger Boys Basketball team opens its season at home against APA they will not be playing in the Jungle.  The game on November 24th will be played at the Alexandria-Monroe Intermediate School gymnasium.  After getting school board approval the AMIS gymnasium will be renamed Orvis “Shorty” Burdsall gymnasium that night.  Shorty walked the sidelines of that gym from 1954-1964 and compiled a record of 140-89 winning 2 Central Indiana Conference Championships and 3 Anderson Sectional Championships (1 Class) during his tenure. Later he became principal of that same school(which was then the high school) and served as principal for many years.  Please come out and honor an Alexandria Legend and root on the Tigers as well.  A few other of Shorty’s accomplishments are listed below.


1946      A graduate of Vincennes High School

Recipient of the 1945-1946 Kiwanis Award for Most Valuable Player

He was named to the 1945-46 All-Sectional and All-Regional Teams

Served 2 years as a United States Marine

1952    Graduated BUTLER UNIVERSITY

Lettered 3 years Varsity Basketball at Butler under Tony Hinkle

Named the Most Valuable Player (2 years)

1983      Inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame
