Multiple Teams · 7th/8th Boys Advance to County Semi-Finals

Last night the 7th grade basketball team got a big 33 to 22 win over a good Anderson team to advance in the county tournament.  Coach Drew Johnson stated, “The defense really came out strong and set the tone for the game and kept Anderson off balance.  The boys also played under control on offense that allowed for some key baskets.  Overall it was a strong performance on both sides of the ball and it gives us momentum going into the next round of the county tournament on Saturday morning at Lapel.”

The Alexandria 8th Grade Boys’ basketball team defeated Anderson Highland in overtime last night in the opening game of the Madison County Tourney.  The Tigers took a 24-12 lead into halftime, but the Scots came roaring back in the second half.  The Tigers had several opportunities to seal the victory in the 4th quarter, but after a last-second shot by Rylan Metz hit the rim and bounced out, the scoreboard showed a 31-31 tie.

Overtime was hectic and fast-paced, with the Tigers trailing by 4 in the last minute of play.  Brennan Morehead hit two huge free throws to bring the Tigers within two.  After forcing a turnover, the Tigers got the ball back and took a timeout with seconds left on the clock.  Cade Vernetti received the inbound pass, drew defensive pressure and passed the ball to an open Rylan Metz.  The ball went through the net as the buzzer sounded and the Tigers were victorious 38-37.  The team’s record is now 17-4 (9-0 in the CIC) and they play Madison-Grant @ Lapel Saturday morning at 9:00 am in the County Semi-Finals.
